S5 sportback black edition

RE the lane assist, you may not use it, but it does alert you when people are in your blind spot, and I do use it if I need to fiddle with the car's sat nav etc, just in case. Given you have specc'd heater rear seats, I can't see you ever using this. Regarding the ACC, probably a must have and it will affect resale.

I used it once to drive in the rain when it was so bad I couldn't really see, the radar can, and it keeps your distance with cars you can't see. It's also great for speed limit zones as mentioned. I also just saved some money on insurance for these safety features.

Heated rear seats and rear side airbags are for my teenage kids really. I think that I have decided to go for the Assistance Pack now. Thanks everyone for the advice, that was exactly the sort of thing I was after. The risk is you think you have gone for your perfect spec and then miss something you wish you had gone for. Must be a sign that I am getting old!

It depends on options selected as to whether it does or doesn't have it. D'oh sorry was using tapatalk, didn't realise it had already been mentioned. Yes, I meant both. Lane assists and side assist. I have just spoken to the dealer and added the assistance pack.

So final confirmed order is as follows: S5 Sportback Black Edition 3. GlynRS2 said:. I think I am happy with that. Statler Old enough to know better. Nice spec there, will look forward to seeing it. Obviously Audi are just rattling off S5 and RS5 models at the minute If you're anything like me you'll still be questioning it right up until the build date My wife just said to me "why don't you just tick all the boxes? There would be no agonising whether your decision to leave something out and include something else was right.

I tend to buy my cars with more heart than head and enjoy the anticipation part of the process. Otherwise it would have been a 2. For those who have the discipline to go that route I have huge admiration for you and understand completely, I just lack a certain restraint when it come to ordering a new car.

It all feels like this at the moment: Classic Guiness advert. Very nice spec car. Got an email from the dealer stating my S5 black edition is confirmed for build week Order was placed 2nd week of June week 24 , dealer thinks it will be ready for pick up in week At least you are a step closer, happy days!

Really looking forward to seeing Adam's Sepang S5, think that's the only colour I might be a little envious of Any wobbles on the spec or did you manage to refrain from just ticking all the boxes.

Hmm, similar scenario for me Great set of winter alloys and tyres you got there. An S5 is born I have just had an email from the dealer: "Good news! Your car has now been built and is currently awaiting shipment to the UK, as soon as the vehicle is in the UK we will be in touch.

Excellent, bet you can't wait to see it in the flesh now You must log in or register to reply here. The new engine was first installed in newly created Cabriolet and Sportback S5 derivatives, with the core Coupe S5 model getting this powerplant in Initially, this car was fitted with a turbocharged 3. That unit was replaced in the Spring of by a mild hybrid 3. So, what's it like? Well don't worry that the switch to diesel power has overly affected performance.

The mild hybrid 3. Top speed, as before, is artificially pegged at mph. The engine utilises a large turbo, which is partly driven by a little electric compressor, as well as exhaust gases. Audi claims that this set-up minimises the effects of turbo lag, with the system being automatically activated whenever the requested engine load exceeds the capabilities of the turbocharger.

To go with this change of engine, Audi has upgraded this car in a number of other areas, adding in Progressive steering, refining the sports suspension and incorporating a revised chassis platform, which controls the car's quattro 4WD system.

The transmission remains an 8-speed Tiptronic auto unit, but this set-up's impressively quick-reacting and smooth. Not so good is the steering it still lacks that crucial final enth of feel and the lowered 'S' Sports suspension will be rather over-firm for some, though you can improve it by paying extra for a 'CDC' 'Continuous Damper Control' system that can be tweaked via the settings of the standard 'drive select' driving dynamics system.

As well as also altering steering weight, throttle response and stability control thresholds, the 'drive select' modes can also influence the optional 'sport differential' system, which constantly varies the amount of drive to each of the rear wheels for extra cornering traction. This improved S5 Sportback shares the visual changes made most recently to lesser variants of this model. The Singleframe honeycomb grille is wider and flatter, and above it ventilation slits reference the classic Audi Sport quattro from As ever, Audi has been extremely subtle in the aesthetic changes that differentiate this S5 Sportback from any ordinary A5 Sportback model.

Certainly, if it weren't for the 'S5' badgework, you'd have to be something of an Audi product expert to tell this car apart from an ordinary 'S line'-trimmed standard variant. The wheelarches house large inch rims and these feature 'S5'-branded black brake callipers, one of the small differentiators that separate the profile aesthetics of the car from those of any ordinary 'S Line'-branded A5.

Other unique touches include aluminium-effect door mirror housings, chrome trim on the door handles and, lower down, textured black sill trim tops. Inside, recent revisions have brought an improved Like all the latest Audis, this one gets the brand's 'Virtual cockpit' instrument binnacle, a You'll need some guidance in the elements that set this S5 model apart, since they're not too easy to spot at first glance.

The three-spoke sports steering wheel is bespoke and another unique touch lies with the brilliant 'S' Super Sport nappa leather-trimmed seats that feature a lovely quilted finish and pronounced side bolsters. Otherwise, apart from lovely alcantara trimming on the doors and a few elements of S-branding, the ambience is exactly as it would be in any plushly-specified A5 model.

As you'd expect, this S5 is as practical as any other A5 Sportback, offering litres of luggage capacity, which is close to the best in this class. The rear seat back splits as standard. Both these models come in a single mechanical configuration that sees the same PS 3.

But we can't help wanting a few more toys, so we'd order the S Sport package which adds red brake calipers, an adaptive suspension, and a torque-vectoring rear differential. Likes: Torquey turbocharged V-6, swift acceleration, tons of cornering grip. Dislikes: Lazy responses in Comfort mode, not as engaging to drive as more focused rivals.

Displacing 3. At our test track, the S5 Sportback managed a swift 4. The eight-speed automatic transmission performs admirably most of the time, but its preference for second-gear starts when in Comfort mode exacerbates the engine's initial turbo lag and renders the S5 annoyingly sleepy off the mark. Tap the Drive Select switch out of Comfort mode and into Dynamic or Auto mode, however, and the S5 Sportback will eagerly leave the line in first gear.

Similarly, the transmission is reluctant to downshift at speed in Comfort mode. Again, swapping to Dynamic or Auto largely rectifies this issue. Regardless of mode, the all-wheel-drive S5 Sportback is devoid of wheelspin on acceleration. Our test car was equipped with both optional inch performance tires and the S Sport package, which includes a torque-vectoring rear differential and adaptive dampers.

These pieces together provide the S5 Sportback with a firm but forgiving ride and a lot of cornering grip. Those buyers with the skills and experience to push the Sportback to its lofty limits, though, will find that the S5 Sportback defaults to fun-killing understeer.

The S5 Sportback is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles within its competitive set. Rated at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway by the EPA, the hp S5 Sportback is almost as fuel efficient on paper as the small, hp Fiat L.
